Jake walked in here at lunchtime today, having been dropped off by his cousin, Carrie, following their day-trip to Amsterdam yesterday. He had just missed Russell, Val and Bethany, who had set off for home, by only 10 minutes, while Mrs Billy, Bud and Becca (she has finally corrected my earlier use of Becky) were shopping up in Berwick.
“Hi, Jacob, did you have a good one, then?” Sure they did, Amsterdam was ‘wild’ he confirmed, as he shot straight upstairs to this little study to reclaim his tenancy before I even had a chance to check my post of yesterday for comments. Wild, eh? Hmm, that could mean heavenly or it could mean hellish. But he seemed to be still in one piece.
When he came back down he was in an ‘Amsterdam’ tee-shirt sporting, among other words, the slogan “Practically Legal”, so I informed him that a police sergeant and a drugs inspector had been around to check him out, and they would be back within the hour. Unfazed? Of course he was. I never could keep a straight face.
So, for 10 minutes only, I had been King of my Castle again. I suspect I might only get ten minutes this time, too, so I will be very brief and scarper in case they all descend upon me with charges of being selfish and possessive, who – me?
I just wanted to add that, as Carrie had dropped him off, so had Lu magically appeared just a little later, looking like a picture. She and Jake were soon sat side by side in adjacent armchairs (including mine) and watching ‘Hollyoaks’. I said to Mrs Billy, “Hey, Lucy is entitled to her turn to get in a little “Jake time", just the same as Carrie.”
As it happens, we had our grandson and the girls’ first cousin, Craig (21) here for most of yesterday, and they don’t come any more handsome than him, so it is a time of being amongst the young and beautiful people, right here and now. Both young men are cousins of the sisters so all is proper conduct, of course, but since when did that rule out competitiveness? Am I an interested observer? You could say that, I suppose.
I’m trying to recall what it used to be like.

Oh sweetie - even though it was a long time ago - I recall one of your posts about when you met Mrs. Billy and something about her legs...hmmm...
I don't think you've forgotten - nor have you lost it!
Your still quite a charming man yourself, Billy. I don't think you've lost your edge yet.
Quite a house full. I love it. We are waiting for our two great grandaughters to decend on us and wreck out peace for the afternoon. But when they leave we will miss them so badly.
I think you were probably a little mini person similar to how you are now! Do you think we change very much as we get older?
aims, baby, I only wish I had your confidence in me.
irene, I am obviously failing. A man who chooses 'Stinking Billy' as his nome de plume is not setting out to be charming - rather a rogue?
r & c, but will you cry and cry, like someone I know?
maggie, you could be right. I am going to stop trying to be different. ;-)
Ah, the young and beautiful ones. How lovely it is to remember when.
I know that when I'm surrounded by the young and beautiful people in my life, it surely makes me feel good too. M xx
